Construction on a hotel in the city of Shandong has started on the first phase of the project, with locals planning to stay in the hotel for up to three months.
The building of the hotel is being built by the Shanghai General Hotel Corporation (SGLC) on a land at the intersection of Shilin and Shaanxi, a project that was announced in October last year.
The hotel will be built in the same way as a standard customs house in Shanghai.SGLC officials said the hotel will feature three rooms and will have a rooftop bar and spa, while the interior of the building will be inspired by the traditional customs house of China, with the traditional bamboo floors, wood beams and white tiles.
The Shanghai General has a population of about 1.5 million, with about 4,000 residents in the area, according to the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Statistics.
A spokesperson for the hotel said it was being constructed with an initial cost of about $300 million and will be completed in 2024.
The hotel is expected to open in 2019.
Customs house plansThe construction of the new hotel is part of a wider theme park project by SGLC, which is working to turn the city into a new global tourist destination by 2050.
The project is being supported by the China Tourism Development Council (CTDC), with a total investment of $7.4 billion.
The SGLC has partnered with the China Development Bank, the Shanghai National Tourism Development Corporation, and the Shanghai Development Foundation to develop the project.
The new hotel will provide a new platform for Chinese tourism, with a large indoor market, restaurants, a market market, a food court and a guest house.
Custom House plans have been approved by China’s State Administration of Industry and Information Technology.
